To other truckers for werner

i fell into the werner trap also. i was promised money and home time, but it never happened. i was sent to atlanta for pre employment and was sent to texas with 13 other trainees for trainers. i waited for a trainer for 3 days. the trainer i had was great. i was with him for 3 months. i was trained to one thing and one thing only. i had to lie to get out the trainers truck. i was then sent aal around the country chasing that dollar that they promised. i did almost every account they had to offer, but i could never get out of owning money to them. my dispatcher would not turn in payroll, so we didnt gert paid. i lost a car and a marriage because of those #####people. if you are wise, dont fall for thier lies.

Werner sux !!! As a student driver they will work you 24/7 team style in a 62 m.p.h.governed truck that won't idle and pay you little more than the perdium pay they suckered you into taking.

In other words, It costs Werner nothing to have you drive their truck till the wheels fall off and you sit or quit. Sad but true !!!

Guest

Glad i own my own truck :zzz

Guest

Stay outta the truck stops and turn them wheels, thatll solve your money issues driver. all these companies have frieght you just have to prove yourself

Guest

I was given my first load to Iowa , cool then got pulled back to Atlanta told my second drug test was a failure and what was I doing driving

knowing that I was a user ! I sat in Atlanta for 3 days before they realized that it was someone else with one number different employee number ! So I go back out to wher my truck was supposed to be and my stuff was thrown out in the rain !They gave my truck to someone else !So I rent a car and head home , Werner can Kiss my ***

Guest

Obviously you weren't trained to write well. :?

I trained on the Budweiser account and Walmart account, so I only learned Indiana, Michigan and Ohio..after I completed training they sent me home, said they had no work for me?..2/08..called sdm twice a week for a month and on the last week, sdm put me on hold and then said...well ur going 48, if ur not down to indie by 5pm tommorw ur considered a quit..WTF...So I made it down there, got a pos used and abused century....got my first load as a solo, and to where...CHICAGO...I was scared as ***...any way, I survived my first run..second run after that was a hazmat to new jersey!....I made it, I don't know how, but I did..remember I only been in 3 diffrent states my whole life and got thrown into that *** blind folded..for about a year I ran solo training myself as I went..broke, no money, starving, loosing my home, here I do hazmat and Canada for these guys and get what?..treated like a pos, and broke!....I decided to start teaming and that seems to be the only way to make any kind of decent money with these guys...what I also have learned talking to other drivers...it don't matter who u start off driving for, they are all the same...do what u can, stick it out and get ur two years in accident free and doors WILL open..

all of yall who are considering going with werner....go ahead.ive been working for them for over a year. bad trainers?

it happens! with any "training company" you have the goods and the bads, i had a good trainer and got lucky. all companies stretch the truth to get you to work for them! stop whining and chock it up as experience.

ive had too many bad experiences to count. but at the end of the day my bills are paid!

Guest

If you and your trainer were running non-stop for 6 days, I assume you were being told to cheat your logs or your trainer was yet another incompetent goon who didn't bother to teach you how to log properly. Don't allow them to pressure you into logging line 4 as line 1.

It's common practice that bears almost no consequences unless you happen to have a serious wreck. At that point, what would have likely been a matter for civil court becomes a felony and any attorney worth his salt will hand your *** to you.

Most truckers would disagree with the above statement, but the funny thing about the legal system is that prosecutors and judges tend to not care about the conventional (non)wisdom that has poisoned the trucking industry.

Guest

I just passed my CDL test at the BMV here in Indianapolis, and after reading all these negative comments, and earlier today I got a bad negative concept from Leslie that works at Orientation, Im not sure what should I do. I was soo excited to work for Warner, but maybe it wont be a good idea.

While I attended Roadmasters here in Indianapolis I filled out 15 applications and I got approved for 14 trucking companies, I def have time to decide and change my thoughts. Thanks for all the comments.

Guest

I just called my recruiter today and canceled my orientation for Werner. Never seen so many negative. Feedback on one company!

Guest

iM IN THE PROCESS OF GOING WITH WERNER, BUT AFTER LOOKING AT ALL THESE NEGITIVE POST I'D BETTER HOLD OFF!

Guest

YOU SHOULD THANK YOUR LUCKY STARS YOU GOT AWAY FROM THE *** OF THE EARTH WERNER WHEN YOU DID THATS WHY WERNER STANDS FOR . WE EMPLOY RETARDS NO EXPIERENCE REQUIRED!!!

Guest

sounds just like my experience with the werner folks no time to shower or eat or having trainer who was sick and no one cared anything about that sending me home on grey hound disscusting experience they are to cheap for being a multi billion dollar company to send me on a train or plane its what ever they could care less about their people just them selves

Werner has screwed me from getting a job!!!

Werner has it on my D.A.C. that I supposedly had a accident that I never had. I try to call Werner to talk to them about the problem and I cant get anyone on the phone except a lot of computer talk. I go to the terminal in Indianapolis and thay look on the computer and thay say thay cant figure out what it was that I supposedly hit. Because of what Werner has on my D.A.C. Record I cant get a job with any trucking company. Now because of Werner I have went bankrupt. I think Werner needes to figure out what thay are doing to thier drivers is wrong. If Werner was a exdriver and he was to sit and remember what he went through the problems when he first started then may be he needes to sit and try to help the other drivers that are working for him. Werner is just the kind of person that wantes to keep every cent that he makes, and doesnt really care about his DRIVERS.

In October 2011, my student pulled into a rest area because she was out of time and on curfew. My clock would not reset for some time.

I inspected the area before she pulled in and it was solid. During the night, it rained and the ground became soft and we became stuck in the mud on one side. As I tried to pull out the following morning, it wouldn't do anything but spin, even with all the "4-wheel drive" activated. I called for a wrecker to pull us out.

I later found out that Safety Dept called it an "accident" because, as they told me, "we had to go to the expense of calling a wrecker and from our perspective, it is an accident".

I was appalled that this "genius" didn't know what a real accident was and wouldn't even if it hit him in the *** To list that as an accident on my DAC is nothing more than the flagrant falsifying of an official record and and should be met with the most severe penalties against Werner and the firing of that individual. It is equally as appalling that Werner would condone such behavior as it clearly defines irresponsibility.

Guest

Funny you should say that because I have the same thing on my DAC report since 2005 and I never had an accident. Thank you for posting this.

Guest

My husband went with werner and got stuck. Needed a tow, no damage no injuries.

When the trainer and him got to the next stop (on time), the trainer siad he could have gotten out of the situation if he would have lock his differental. Good advise tooo late. Werner let him finish the route and terminated him. Now he can't get picked up by other companies.

We finally got a copy of the Drivers verification report, Accident on it.

The DAC report has no accidents. Any thing we can do??

Guest

Don't call werner. Get online and go to a company called hire right .com and fight it on your dac report this company will help you unless u did hit something and if u didn't then great fight them through hire right. At www.hireright.com

This company only is for employers not employees....

Guest

I'm a wife of a werner driver and they tried to put an accident on my husbands record for having to send someone to give him a jump. When he started on his own they gave him a piece of **** with over 400000 miles that had to be jumped several times before ever leaving in it, when he asked for new batteies they laughed and said they had never seen those.

He was at a stop that didn't have enough room for the truck and trailer so his nose was in the road and his batteries died from having his flashers on. He fought it and got the "accident" removed.

Hopefully that may help you figure out why they did that to you. I would definitely get a lawyer though.

Guest

How about you get a hold of your former driver manager and get him/her to answer the questions you need answered, I am a current driver and have never ever had a problem getting human contact, whether it be good feedback or bad attitude, someone always answers the phone. Stop *** and keep calling

Guest

D.A.C. is run by a company called HireRight, and falls under Federal/State rules concerning Fair Credit Reporting, just like Equifax, TransUnion, etc. Your best bet is to contact HireRight, appeal the negative report, hire a lawyer to sue Werner to make them change the false/incorrect report they submitted to HireRight, and then re-apply to the trucking companies you wish to apply to.

A wife's perspective - Werner

My husband started w/Werner in May 2009. He had a great trainer.Thank goodness because he had to stay on the truck with him or in a flea bag motel when the trainer was on home time for 3 months - he got his 300 hours in but had to stay w/trainer until he was assigned a truck if he wanted his $500 signing bonus.

He got his truck and was assigned a load right away and had to drive 2 more wks before getting home time. He has to fight to get home even though he puts in his home requsts the day he goes back out (2 - 3 weeks early). He will never be able to get home weekly. He has had to sit along the road for up to 5 hours waiting for maintainance to come out, he has loads taken away from him while he waits for a trailer because one dispatcher tells him to bobtail and the next says you should not do that,he no longer calls in to dispatch because of this, everything s/be put on the qualcom so its in writing and even that is chancey.

As a wife, the trucking industry is just as tough! Your husband is gone. You have to make all repairs to the house/cars, take care of the kids, make all decisions, run all the errands, take care of your personal needs, and in general live life on your own.

Sure you can talk on the cell phone but it changes you and it changes him. There will be tears - sometimes on both sides. If your marriage isn't strong it won't survive.

I too am a Werner Driver's wife, and I know all to well the *** you speak about and are living through... as does my husband!

Werner's Motto is " Werner Cares" . Bull*%@#!!!!! The only thing this company cares about is the " Bottom Line", " The final Dollar Amount" in their own pockets!!! My husband was promised so many things by the Werner Recruiter that visited his school right before he graduated that, when the real horror that comes with being a "Werner Driver" finally came to light, all he could say to me was; " that f$@%*##@ recruiter for Werner fed him more BS and served it up better than my recruiter for the USMC did when he got me to sign up!!" My husband has been with werner since his training in Dec.

2011. Yes, fortunatelly he had a very awesome trainer ( no thanks to Werner) and today is still a very trusted and close friend. His first account driving on his own was for Family Dollar. Was Guaranteed an average weekly take home pay of $700.00 at the least.

His average after the first month was under $500.00, and he was getting regular 34hr resets about every 2 to 21/2 weeks. Then by the fourth month average wkly. pay was barely above $350.00 to $450.00 and he might get lucky and get 3days home after4 or 5 or 6 weeks out and the required time of advanced notice for time off requests. We have a very strong relationship and marrige, but then was the beginning of what almost was our end.

It is the honest truth that this kind of blaten disreguard for drivers, their wives and families can and will change everyone and everything within their family. The dispatchers, terminal employees, etc... etc... all get to go home to their families and lives every night, every weekend and every holiday!!!

So they don't care about anything or anyone beyond that point!!! I have so very much more to say because parts of our story only gets worse; but as all of us wives alone at home... I still have much to do before my work day ends and I even get to stop catch my breath and relax before eating a little, taking a shower, crawling into my still empty bed and praying for the Lord to come into the lives of all the selfish, greedy cold individuals within Werner Enterprises and their affilliates and to bring us to a new job and place that truly and honestly values families, employees, drivers, as equals and not just their own. I will be returning to finish our story.

For now... Peace, Love and Happiness, God Bless,

Guest

all those comments are scary for new driver

I worked there in 1998 and quit I came back almost three years ago. They are turning over the good drivers and putting anyone that can pass a physical in the trainer trucks. I got robbed by them and encourage any kind of retribution for whatever they have done.

I have worked for werner trucking for 1 year and I have told so many lies, lies, lies, lies. I don't get to see my family maybe twice a month, even though I put in my 2 weeks to come home, they deny me.

They tell you all these great things about the company, a bunch of BULL-***. I have a wife and kids, who barely sees me, but very supportive. I have so many violations on my truck, they don't care they just send me right back on the road, still saying they will fix it.

WARNING DO NOT WORK FOR WERNER TRUCKING CO. :(

Guest

but, I hope to see this company end up like Arrow Trucking.

I married a Werner owner/operator on Feb 6th, 2010. On Feb 9th he went back out on the road with a request to be home on March 7th.

We live in NW Florida. Tonight, March 6th we celebrate our being married for one month. I have not seen him since he left to go back over the road. He is sitting in Pineville, LA and has been told there is no freight to NW Florida until Monday.

In the meantime, they are giving him a load to Huntsville, AL for delivery tomorrow! Both Huntsville, AL and Pineville, LA are over 600 miles from home. I had arranged to be off work the two days he was going to be home. Never had this problem while we were engaged.

Now he will maybe get home and I will have to be back at work.

Some f--ing company. They really don't care about the drivers or their families.

Werner LIES,LIES,LIES!!!!!

When my husband applied to Werner he was told he can expect to make about fifty thousand a year after the 6 week training period in which he would make very little. The training period was not 6 weeks it was 12 weeks in which you can expect to make about $300 a week or less.

You are on the road 24/7 and your time off or days off is spent in the cab of the truck with your trainer driving. When your trainer goes home to be with his family they put you up in a roach infested sleezy hotel room for days. My husband got through the training and started the real job. Guess what?

His check is about $400 a week for working about 60 hrs. We are fighting and will probably be divorced over this whole thing. Werner is not honest about what the real deal is and what you really will make. You find that out after you are there.

In our case we could lose our home over this.

How lomg can you go without a real check? I don't know what companies are decent to work for out there, but trust me when I tell you that Werner is as bad as it gets!!!!

that company is all about hiring poor students and feeding the lie they one day training will be over with and they will start making 50,000 a year and be home 3 days a week.but not until about 5 months of training.

Guest

My husband went into Werner as a training/experience opportunity too. He spent several months in the truck w/a trainer because they "didn't have any trucks" for newbies.

When he got a truck there were many weeks he brought home $250/$300 a week after working 60 to 80 hours!

He came home to learn he has cancer so he basically wasted two and a half years in a can, being ran all over and used. He was so sure this was going to give us a future but it really just took time we can never have back.

Guest

I was a student with Werner for a while, got through training, got sick, then they told me I no longer had a position there. It's a long story, but after losing my job I got one as a delivery driver for a nationally known home improvement chain.

Did that for a year and a half, but got moved to another part of the store. I put in 12-13 hour days, no break, no lunch, lifting heavy appliances. I only did it b/c it was full time and with insurance. I really needed it as I had a medical condition that needed to be addressed.

For all my training (I graduated from two schools and had extra hours of training) and finally passing CDL test on the eighth try, I am now WORKING RETAIL.

I regret ever learning to drive a truck even though it did help me get a job to improve my health. Planning now to look for a job with set hours and be happy with my lot in life, even if I have to work two-three jobs to live a "normal" lower middle class life.Werner SUCKS!

Im a werner trainer and made $65k and $55k in the last 2 years. Being a trainer sux sometimes but its the only way to make decent money driving at werner.

I try my best to help every student get what they need out of training to go out on their own. Its not all run, run, run all the time. Initially the student does all the driving as we are given only solo loads. SLOWLY it is ramped up over the weeks as long as I let dispatch know its ok to give us more.

I drove for werner a year before becoming a trainer and I made about $30k, but I busted tail..They dont give you many miles as solo(I averaged about 2500 for yr) so you better jam them out and show them you are a safe hard runner, you will be treated as such... PS I always get home within a day of what i ask for, sometimes a day early sometimes a day late but mostly the same day i asked for...hmm

Guest

Kenny, can I email you as my husband is now at 6 month mark w/ Werner and we went into this w/ this strategy that "this will be a period of time for you to gain some experience and get the HE** out of there". We'd like some good, competitive intelligence on what o/ trucking companies are good after the 6 month mark--have heard that now you need to wait a full yr?. It seems now, they're all about the same--the devil's in the details w/ all of them.

Guest

...or if your husband wants some advice or help for anything.

Guest

There are better companies out there. Companies like Werner are for student and people to get in to truck driving.

Tell your hubby to *** his tongue kiss *** and get through it. Once he as 6 months (that includes the training time) he can start looking for a better company. I know it is hard for a married couple. My wife finally gave up and put our stuff in storage and came on the truck with me.

We are divorced now, but it had nothing to do with the job.

I am back in college and working towards my medical license. Good luck, if you need someone to vent to feel free to shoot me an email.

Do not trust werner enterprises for employment or proper treatment.

I finished truck driving school and i was selected by werner to be a student driver. After being treated like dirt by werner as a student driver, i was then told i would not have a job after the training was complete, but i could stay on as a student driver at student pay. I then later found out werner enterprises takes on student drivers to receive government subsidies in the form of ten thousand dollars per student. Werner enterprises deceives potential student drivers by allowing them to think they will have a job when the training is over. Nothing could be further from the truth. They pay the student drivers peanuts and receive ten thousand dollars to qualify student drivers without the possibility of employment. The treatment i received from werner was the worst i had ever experienced from any employer in twenty six years of my employment history. Werner takes advantage of the working man and our government allows it. The point of government subsidies is to help new drivers obtain employment. Werner manipulates this program for financial gain at the tax payers expense.

My brother and I both have found this out to be the case. While I quit just after going on the road with a trainer due to my own decision that this kind of life would SUCK! He has stuck with it and we just had a conversation on by phone backing up this claim.

Werner can go the same way and follow Arrow Trucking into closure.

Good riddence to this screw-you company.

Werner lies, steals, n makes workers slaves

Werner Enterprises took my husband on Nov. 22,2010.

The recruiters promised him $.29/mile while training. I took my husband to the *** hotel in Indianapolis,In and dropped him off w a confirmed date of return in 2 weeks. He was told that he earned 1 day off for every 7 days driven. my husband did not return for 6 weeks.

His 1st trainer stranded him in Mississippi for a week while he took a vacation. When he finally made it home he got 2 days w us and i spent a whole day taking him back n forth from Indy. My husband was then gone for another 6 weeks. Meanwhile he was only getting paid 350.00/wk before taxes & insurance.

My husband brought home 160.00/wk. He was told that his training wouldn't last more than 6 wks& it has been 12 wks now. He got great reviews from both of his trainers. When my husband started driving on his own he asked a number of times for a employee handbook& was never given 1.

He drove for Walmart, Dollar General, Dollar Tree on a deducated route. His dispatcher falled 2 tell my husband that he had specific paperwk 2 fill out@ each stop inorder 2 get paid for unloading the truck@ each stop therefore he was working for free. After about the 10th time asking bout his pay his disbatcher said he noticed it but just set it aside. Werner owes my husband 2 grand& still has not paid.

Werner also paid him half of what he was told per mile. We are sueing Werner Enterprises for back wages& damages. Werner is the most dishonest company i have encountered. Working for McDonalds would get you further in life.

The day my husband turned in his truck 143 other drivers did the same for the same reason. Werner Enterprises is the worst company 2 work 4 & unless u want 2 get screwed on a daily basis don't work 4 Werner.

That is the life of a driver not sure why you would think you would get home all the time then you would cry about how you don't make any money. Next time check the facts about all trucking companies it is what you make it if you failed it was your fault millions of driver's out here every day fact 1 yes 1 day for every 7 fact 2 when training no company will dump you off every week for one or 2 days fact 3 you will not get the same trainer then you will sit and wait for another trainer fact 4 it will take forever to finish your training fact 5 truck driving is NOT for the weak cry baby fact 6 you WILL stay out for weeks on end fact 7 wheels don't turn you don't earn I have been doing this for a long time and I make a *** ton of money so your the reason you fail sorry to say not really sure why you green Horn's think you get 5 mins in the seat and think your a real Truck driver can't park can't back up take you a hour to get into a spot in a truck stop all companies need to STOP hiring people like you gives everyone one else bad name

Guest

I am amazed by your story....First of all I will say I have been with this company for over 30 years and never witnessed anything like you describe. I am wondering why you did not just leave as soon as you realized things were not as you had expected, or better yet, maybe have a discussion with someone in management about your ordeal.

I realize that this company like any other has faults, but I have found that civil conversations with anyone in a management position usually bodes well....Did you ever try this tactic?

I am sorry that you had a bad experience but 10,000 other employees do not share your sentiments. Have a good day and best of Luck to you

Guest

It saddens me gratley to read all this. I worked and trained for werner before greg his son took over and had a wonderful family inviroment.

Cl werner took good care of me. But then his son took over i left.

I miss those good old days.

Guest

It's not for everyone. I've worked for Werner for almost 2 years now.

Yes Werner has good and bad but so does every company.

It's a training company for a reason. Not a career company

Guest

Roflmfaoo I have been working for werner for 7 month, not the best but def not the worste. Ma'm I gotta say you and your hubby are both idiots.

While in training its 450 a week and gotta do 275 unless you test out at 215. In those hrs you don't suppose to go home and trainer trainer trains you on ***, so pay attention ask quistions. So after you get done with training get your own truck, do the paper work and send it in, now to get hired by a good company you need 6 ,month to 1 yr experiance. Now there dollar general, doller tree, and family doller, are dedicated accounts where you get 2 days off a week and pays more then ovr with werner if you work your *** off..

Now listen up *** your despatch is not your boss and if they tell you to drive in bad weather, or without enough sleep, or anything unsafe you cAn tell them to go *** themselves. Safety dpt is the only department that can fire you. That being said I like doller general account, get a workout and make more money then I ever have, I have still only been on the account for 2 month was on surge before this.. that being said though my last check was 952 after taxes and another month can train and be making 1400 to 2000 a month and means I get someone to help me unld trailor..

but if your in indianola,in don't do dg they pay to bad but I could go ovr now for kmb making 0.45 mile but I can make just as much on dg and I make 0.36 mile so cannot complain but if your a knew driver would try melton, tmc, but if not them then werner and get your year expo and if want ovr move on to a better company but gotta have a year so to all you people talking *** who is to wimpy to make it through training go work at mccdonalds bc it will suit you, training is part of life in any job, cannot start at the top and trucking is not for everyone, but its catching me up and almost forgot on dg can make 1000 after taxes if you can work your *** off.. but gees I am not werner fan bc they could pay dg better for unld but it is a beginner company but swifts owner *** me off that guy makes 55m a day and pays drivers *** haha

Please learn to spell before calling anyone an ***. I work for Werner now and so far not a bad company.

People complain about no home time but I've never had a problem going home. I just request my days off and thats all.

23 Years OTR. Was looking for a local run.

Werner has a gig in my area. Recruiter said .44 + .02 safety bonus. 1st month it was great. Then I got a check that said .37 mile.

I called to get it fixed. Was told .44 + .02 isn't in their contract with this client. I told them good bye. I was making .37 in 2003.

Found a regional run, home every Friday, out every Monday.

.42 mile. Werner drivers have to be brain damaged to stay with that company.

I drive net ops from omaha ne,exit 440,to iowa city, exit 249,everynight i drive 533 miles they pay for only 488 at .318,im working a min.of 1 hour a day for free and that doesnt even include fueling grabbing empties and put up with my incompetent fleet mngr .I am grateful iam home everynight and thats the only reason iam still here 4now.i went through trainng and worked for CRETE CARRIERS for 9 months.left to be home.i was absolutely amazed how unorganized werner enterprises is.my calculation for me is they are not paying me for,215 min a week ×s .318 = somewere around 68.37 a week, because they always round down, multiply that by 48 = around $3200 annually multiply that by how many drivers werner employs, say 5000 drivers =lets just round that down to around 16 million a year, that justs sickens me,i just dont see how that is legal....i meen i could go on and on about the difficulties ive had in the 7 months ive been here.If you drive for them be honest...this has been exactly how it is...*** dont role down hill,it starts from the top...

You people who complain are pathetic. There's good and bad in every company.

Werner is a big company. I worked an account with them (surge fleet) which took me to each dollar store account. I was making upwards of 1200-**** a week as a solo driver. His *** was handed a paper when he walked through each door at each dc that told him what to do to ensure he was paid.

I never had a problem getting my money. I am now a trainer. I go over every single detail with my students. Warning about things like this so they don't run away from the company.

Ridiculous that you people can't just pay your dues nowadays. When I was in training. 300 bucks before taxes and insurance!!!! I was in training for three months!!

I didn't once complain about my trainer taking to much time off. I made the best of a bad situation. Now look where I'm at. I make upwards of 1200-**** a week.

I also give my students an incentive pay for mileage. Out of my own pocket! Werner is not the best company. But they have treated me very well.

Answered all my questions. And are not going to keep money from you if it is not your fault you didn't get it In the first place.

Maybe he would be better off at McDonalds. Cuz with that attitude that's the only place that will hire him

Screwed me out of job

werner came in and bought out Tracker Marine fleet. Promised all the boat haulers a job.

Some had been there 28+ years and had accident free driving records.

After they took over, the top drivers were not kept.will not tell them why even though they sent a letter to the review board! Very unprofessional behavior! Most of them are over 60 years old and probably can't find another job,but cannot retire,so we are basically screwed by Tracker and Werner both!hope they can live with theirselves to do people that way.Werner is a worthless company!!

Guest

Sorry if some people r not happy with werner I've had jobs I didn't like an blamed the company but to hear some of theseis bad story I have to wonder what's the real story is and what did they expect. My girl friend n I together make 100000 a year team drive end trainers make 50000 a year get past your first year and doors will open up so will ur pay Go Werner

Guest

I see Werner is really keeping the high quality work force up. Hire people who can't speak english, so they don't "complaint" (complain).

Hire people who will work for 25 cents a mile, keep them far away from home(if they had a home to begin with),give them short 100 or less runs, and "give end" (given?)a truck to live in. "Me thinks" Werner should definately go the way of Arrow trucking.

Angry about Werner Trucking

My husband just started working with Werner Trucking. The training period was horrible. His trainer was very inexperienced and almost got my husband killed by crashing the truck into a poor old senior citizen. He was seriously injured. It was very hard for us to make it financially on the $319 a week or less checks that he received during this 8 week training period. Now that he is finished with training we have received the shock of our lives. He was told he could expect to make about $1000 a week. That is a joke. He is told to show up at 6:00 p.m. and then is made to wait for his run which can be as late as 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. He is only paid per mile. He finishes very early in the morning after being there for 12 or 14 hours. The run is about 180 miles which equals about $80. That is for a 12 or 14 hour work day. He is barely making minimum wage. They told him to hang in there that they are only getting started with him and that he will make more money just a little later down the line. We are sick to our stomachs about the whole thing. We paid thousands for my husband to attend a driving school to receive his CDL license. He thought he had a job, obviously he can't stay for much longer under these conditions. He is supporting our family and can not do so on minimum wage.He is also expected from Werner to take the truck in for repairs on his personal time without getting paid.OUTRAGEOUS! Can any one out there direct us to a trucking company that treats people decent and pays a fair wage for a driver with 3 months experience. We need help!!!

In response to comment from Detroit Michigan, the manager had ordered my husband to take his truck to a Werner location that was 2 hours away and to sit and wait for the truck to be fixed on his supposed day off and he didn't get a dime for doing it.I called the labor department and they said that after I add all of the hours my husband quote worked for the company and as long as it wasn't less than minimum wage then the company was legal do to it.He was getting .28 per mile when he drove but not for driving to Pennsylvania to get the truck fixed and if you add up all the time he had to be there for Werner then he wasn't making much more than minimum wage.He was told to show up at 6:00p.m. and then told to wait in your car in the parking lot until dispatch assigned him a run which wouln't be until between 9p.m.-12p.m.and if the truck needed any repairs you were expected to drive the truck over 2 hours to a Werner location with mechanics and sit and wait, but to log it in as if you were on sleep time otherwise you would lose your run for the next day.My husband couldn't leave Werner fast enough and now has a great job in the oil fields of North Dakota.Great pay, great working conditions, great management, and treated very well.

His time with Werner felt like we were in a third world country with slave wages and slave treatment of employees. We are glad its over!!!Thank God for North Dakota!!!

Guest

I don't think werner has the truck worked on his personal time tjats a lie. They schedule the repairs before or after a load or before home time.He must drive a day cab than becouse 180 miles a day aint alot trust me.I am sure they pay him what most companies pay 28 to what ever a mile. Why not try jb hunt at 22 cents a mile.First off you can only drive 11 hrs in a 14 hr day.

Guest

Yep another Werner Screw Job. I went to get my truck assigned to me at the Indy terminal only to be met with 25 other drivers in the lounge that had been waiting days to get a truck assigned.

One was a 10 yr driver that needed to finish his run with a different truck because his was D.O.T. redtagged. He was told there were no truck available. Instead of me getting a truck assigned, they told me I was on probation for 45 days and had to train for an additional 60 hours with a trainer becuse I damaged a plastic bumper cover early in my 300 hours of training.

MY ONLY INCIDENT! and was told by Omaha's Safety Dept. it was not a big deal. $319 during training?

try living on $200 week and buying food on the road out of that for 2 months. Werner has a great racket going.

Don't get sucked into the Werner black hole. F werner.

I wish I had known before!

I wish I had read the complaints before I started my "training" with Werner Trucking. Lied to about bonus, lied to about hours needed to finish training, not told about having to room with a stranger, didnt pay for my meals (cheap breakfast, *** lunch) I met people at training in Allentown, PA, who were having the same situation.

Werner IS NOT a reputable company, they lie to you to suck you in. Im glad I had the sense to leave after four days of waiting for a trainer. Luckily I was able to have my wife apply online at another trucking company and had a good job lined up for the next week. I feel bad for anyone who has been sucked in by Werner and went through *** and didnt have the opportunity to find something else like I did.

Something I will never forget was meeting a guy at the hotel where I was who has been driving for Werner two years. He failed a physical due to high blood pressure. Because he had his dog with him, he couldnt take the bus home, they abandoned this poor guy there, with no money to get home. He was living in the woods behind the hotel for about 2 weeks until he was able to collect donations from other truckers and sneak in for the breakfast, and living off the ice machine and thats all he ate for the day.

He had to liquidate his stocks that were worth 10,000 and only got 2,000 just so he could get home. I decided I did not want to work for a company that treats their loyal employees that way.

After hearing all the horror stories and reading the posts here, Im so glad I got out when I did, I just wish I had known before I wasted my time with Werner. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH WERNER,RUN, DONT WALK, IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!!!!!!

I haven't obtained my CDL yet. My school keeps delaying our road test dates and they can't hold on to their instructors.

All this after I paid my own $5300 tuition. That's another story. I was thinking about applying to Werner.

I appreciate all your comments about these ***. I will avoid them like the plague.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-986411

Try to get your tuition back. That is alot and other schools are not that much. You should apply to a company that has their own school, that would be best for you.

Guest

This company lies thru their teeth at the driving schools they go to to recruit new drivers. They suck in these rookies with the prettiest pictures of their company and what they will do for them.

I know this first hand, because I was one of them. They get a government grant of $10,000 per new hire for hiring inexperienced drivers and training them. As soon as they have gotten their money from Uncle Sam...You don't matter anymore! It's the only reason they want rookies.

They lie about everything to suck you in. Be warned, beware...

. The company motto is the biggest lie of all!

Laura P Ggp

hmm where did you hear that Werner might get shut down by the government?

Guest

Well I am glad I have been reading these comments. I worked for Swift had an A.s.s for a trainer, but made it my 6 weeks.

Die to the low pay I opted to not return, If you can afford to work for .25 a mile for 3 months after training they are an awesome company.... I think that's slave wages and no one should put in a 77 hour week, it is actually a lot more and not take home any real pay. I refuse to work and get paid just enough so I can stay away from my family and work.

No Thanks. I am only half way through this and I am not going to apply with them now.

april Nfb

I was supposed to start with Werner on the 26th of this month, now after reading all of these comments about the company and the simple fact they may be forced to shut down by the govt soon has me skeptical about going to orientation, I'm glad I have 3 other companies that have accepted my application, so I will research those companies and go with the best one for me because Werner obviously isn't the one for me THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE :)!!!!

Guest

When Wernerfirst started there Owner/Operator program, I was there. The first Six months were fantastic, great pay home every weekend, and more.

Then a N**** dispatcher decided he owned my truck. When they took the Qualcom(never again) out of my tractor, all they did was ***.

Until that curly blond aho;e showed up(CL)asked what he could do for me. Too little way too late.

Guest

Donnie, can I ask what company was you able to go to work for? My husband just got sent home as I speak from Werner.

He has been there 4 weeks now and because he got some dates mixed up on his work history they sent him home....At least that was there excuse why after he has busted his butt working for nothing 200 week if that much. Now he needs another job and fast...

Guest

Werner is full of liars. The training pay is a joke, no one can live on $250 a week.

After my husbands first trainer dumped him in a lot while he went home for the weekend, he refused to take him 25 minutes to the hotel where Werner has rooms, he got a good trainer and was enjoying his training. As training ended he was promised a midwest route and home on weekends. His first delivery was to the east coast.

His truck was a piece of ***, the Qualcomm wouldn't work right and he wasn't given complete instructions. After 3 very stressfull days of pleaded with Werner to get him home, he finally left the truck at a truckstop and is driving home.

Guest

now see i find this all so odd..my husband went to a college for his cdl...werner called him a few weeks after getting his cdl...he went to indy for orientation..he asked for a non smoking trainer..thought hed have to wait..but got his trainer the same day he was done with orientation...that was aug 6th..today is sept 13 and he is still out on the road trying to get his 300 hours in..he's almost there...hes had a run of bad luck..hit a herd of deer..and tore up the truck..so they had to sit for about a week to get that fixed..he says his trainer is a great guy..wont let my husband pay for any food..got mad when my husband paid for breakfast..lol...so far everything is fine..but we shall see if they offer him a job when he's done...

You should of got off that Loser Trainer's truck he is a piece of *** for doing that to you.. I know I use to be a trainer for Werner..

I stopped being a trainer.

OH an I do know they don't teach much backing in those fly by nite schools. just enough to get the cdl

Guest

Tim,

Not hard to back up? I'm not a trucker, but I've read countless, well-experienced truckers say that's the toughest thing to do, particularly if it's "blind side".

Guest

Yeah, my Werner "trainer" played video games on his laptop, stopped at every casino, and took multiple breaks when he should have been "observing", "teaching" and resting to take over when I was done driving my 10 1/4 hours. Werner trains?

What a joke. I feel you on the lack of backing or the instruction on backing. O/O burns your 300 hours up, but does not train you on jack.

Oh and don't break a plastic bumper, it gets you 45 day probation and 60 more hours with another top notch "trainer". F werner.

Guest

:x U will get it hang in there and to the guy with the comment about school training them. there r a lot of school and very few that teach what u need to no. HANG IN THERE

Guest

THEY LIKE TO TALK BIG AND DONT DO ONE THING THEY SAY

Guest

Why didnt you learn to back up while you were at school. Not hard at all

Forget about Werner, Covenant or Swift!!!!

Started with Werner at the end of February '09. For your orientation they shove you into a room, with some other driver you don't know, at the "luxurious" hotel they use in Lakeland. You get breakfast both days....toast or muffin or bagel and juice, just watch out for the roach ***. You get picked up in the company shuttle..."broken down van"....by the injured driver..."smelled like Old Milwaukee"... who as been with the company all of 6 weeks. Spend 12 hours filling out paperwork and taking *** little tests and listening to a woman who was a "long time driver who wanted to help teach the new drivers"....***!!! You also get a little sales pitch from the fleet sales guy, just so they can try and *** a little more. Reminded me of a gangster film...."what a grese ball".

They give you and the other 20 or so drivers lunch...."2" slices of pizza and nothing to drink. You get to fight for a seat on the van back to the hotel and do it all over again the second day.

If you are lucky, like me, your trainer will call the second night. If not you could be at the hotel for a while....at least a week waiting to be picked up.

I went in on a Monday and was picked up 6 am Wednesday to head out. My trainer was nice enough and had been driving for ten years. I drove all day every day and completed the 300+ hours in a little over a month. Problem was, he was a dedicated driver and was home every weekend and I was stuck in a hotel on the weekend....which Werner stopped paying for the last week I was out.

I showered every day and I ate every day and didn't have any problems with the trainer...I'm one of the few like that. One of the guys I was in cdl training with started 2 weeks before me and was still about 50 hours shy when I finished. He has since gone through 3 partners. My trainer has since quit and a woman I was in cdl training with was kicked out of her truck in Arizona and left there for 2 weeks in a hotel....by WERNER!!!!!.... before she was picked up by a new trainer.

The best part of all this, I was told they were not testing when I finished training and that I would have to go out another 6 weeks with a new trainer.

They tell everyone the same thing. And yes, they have brand new units in Dallas, Atlanta and Omaha.

I told them to kiss my *** and give me a truck. Still haven't heard from them and its been 3 months. I'm not holding my breath over it either. I know a guy who drove for Werner for over a year. He got laid off in January and then they hired a new boatload of drivers....if I had known, I wouldn't have bothered, and neither should you. They get funding from the government to train you and they want to pay a daily rate and pocket the rest, why oh why didn't I think of that?

Don't bother with COVENANT or SWIFT either. Both of them run the same way. As a matter of fact, Swift was investigated by the DOT for having drivers who didn't pass their driving exams....gotta love it. You know Swift does stand for...Shore Wish I Finished Training.

!!!!!!!!!!DO NOT SIGN ON WITH WERNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats as simple as I can put it. Just look at the other reviews. We can't all be wrong.

I have never seen a sadder bunch of illiterate rednecks in my life. I have noticed that it's always the driving school rejects who post complaints about Werner.

You either have what it takes to be a professional driver or you don't!

If you can't even spell basic words correctly, what makes you think your entitled to make $50,000 a year? What a joke!

Werner is one of the worst. They lie to you & about you on your DAC.

They killed my career before it started, as I never even drove for them, but that's not what they reported on my DAC. What ever you do, look into other companies, don't take the first one(s) that offers to train/hire you.

Guest

I worked for Werner 8 months. They lied to me from the start.

Promised 48 states then forced to SE Region. Regions are paid at a much lower (sliding scale) rate of pay... as low as .21 cents per mile for trips 501 mile and over, and all Dead Heads are paid at .15 cents per mile. There is no way you can make a living when you are only getting 1500 to 1900 miles per week.

may pay checks averaged between $200 and $300 per week net. I made more working at Lowe's BEFORE I paid $5000 to go to TDI Driving School. DON'T go to work for Werner. Werner DOES NOT CARE their employees are filing bankruptcy and losing their houses.

Don't go to work for Werner unless you don't care if your screwed over and paid less than $400 per week.

Werner Lies. Werner is the worst company I have ever worked for.
